Is what the questioner is experiencing—from the frequent masturbation, insomnia, disturbing dreams, appearance of various physical symptoms, listening to music, and migraine accompanied by numbness—a result of an evil eye or envy, or is it an 'ashamed jinn' possession? Legitimate ruqyah is permissible for both the afflicted and the unafflicted. A Muslim can perform it himself, or his mother can perform it for him. There is no harm in seeking help from ruqah (exorcists) known for their distance from sorcery; however, if they are not available, self-ruqyah is sufficient. The following are beneficial and have been tried: being determined to get rid of masturbation, avoiding solitude and sleeping alone, increasing supplications during times of answering, drinking Zamzam water after reciting Al-Fatiha over it, giving charity, consistently reciting morning and evening adhkar, reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas and Al-Mu'awwidhatayn three times, repeating "Hasbi Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, alayhi tawakkaltu wa Huwa Rabbu al-Arsh al-Azim" (Allah is sufficient for me; there is no deity except Him. Upon Him I have relied, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne) seven times, praying four rak'ahs at the beginning of the day, and reciting the traditional supplication for lifting affliction.
