Is it permissible for a wife to secretly take money from her husband, with the intention of returning it to him later, due to her need to secure an income for herself and her children after divorce, because of the husband's mistreatment and his failure to fulfill her rights and the rights of their children, and his threat to stop spending on her and deprive her of her children if she requests a divorce?

A wife is permitted to take from her husband's wealth for her own sustenance and that of her children if he does not provide them with the obligatory maintenance. This should be done within reasonable limits, without excess. However, if he provides them with sufficient maintenance, it is forbidden for her to take from his wealth without his permission. In such a case, she must repent and return what she took. She is entitled to the profit from a Mudarabah (partnership) according to common practice.
