Is a relationship between a young man and a young woman, in which they previously committed unlawful acts but have since repented, religiously permissible if they now only discuss their future and each loves the other without committing forbidden acts? What is the ruling on this love, and is it permissible to maintain it for the purpose of marriage?

The Mufti (definition) congratulates the young man and woman on their repentance and affirms that marriage is the best guidance for two people in love and the greatest cure for passionate love, provided that Islamic legal guidelines are observed in interactions between the sexes, and caution is exercised against temptation. It is advised to promptly propose and marry, consulting trustworthy individuals and performing the Istikhara prayer before taking any step.
