What is the ruling on citizens employed in non-Islamic banks?

It is not permissible to work in interest-based (usurious) banks, due to the hadith narrated by Jabir in Sahih Muslim: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who consumes Riba (usury), the one who feeds it to others, its scribe, and its two witnesses." And he said: "They are all equal (in sin)." However, it is permissible to work in them out of necessity for someone who cannot find another job that fulfills their basic needs.
