Is a wife obligated to obey her parents or her husband when the demands of her family conflict with the commands of Islamic law and his protective jealousy over her, and is obeying one of them considered disobedience to the other?

The wife must not obey her parents in matters that contravene religion, such as removing the hijab (definition), for there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator. This is not considered undutifulness, and the husband's right and obedience to him take precedence over the parents' right after marriage. Similarly, the husband must safeguard his wife's religion and morals and protect her from corruption, as Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire," and as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, all of you are guardians, and all of you are responsible for your charges."
