What is the ruling on wiping over medical socks, and do they take the ruling of leather socks (khuff) or a splint (jabirah)? What is their ruling in cases of extreme hardship? Is it permissible to combine the rulings of both khuff and jabirah on them? And what is the ruling for a disabled person who cannot find anyone to help them with wudu (ablution)?
It is permissible to wipe over the leather socks (khuffayn) and regular socks (jawrabayn) for both residents and travelers. It is not a condition to wipe with the hand directly; rather, it is permissible with a wet cloth or sponge. A disabled person may ask another person to wipe over his socks or to help him perform ablution (wudu'). If the socks are difficult to remove and put back on, they take the ruling of a splint (jabirah), and it is permissible to wipe over them without a time limit and without the condition of having put them on while in a state of purity. If the disabled person is unable to wipe by himself or cannot find someone to wipe for him, then he should wash the parts of his body that he can for ablution and perform tayammum (dry ablution) for what he is unable to do.
