The answer

The narrations regarding the manner of invoking blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) vary. Among them is what Malik narrated from Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari with the wording: "O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim. And grant blessings to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You granted blessings to Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, among all beings. Indeed, You are Most Praiseworthy, Most Glorious." And as for the salutation (salam), you have already learned it. And it is narrated in Al-Muttafaq Alayh from Abu Humaid Al-Sa'idi with the wording: "O Allah, bless Muhammad and his wives and his progeny, as You blessed the family of Ibrahim. And grant blessings to Muhammad and his wives and his progeny, as You granted blessings to the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Most Praiseworthy, Most Glorious." There is no contradiction between these narrations; what is required is invoking blessings, and by whatever wording it comes, it will be accepted, Allah willing. However, the established and proven formula is more preferable and carries a greater reward.
