Is a wife entitled to seek divorce due to being beaten after abstaining from her marital duties and household chores?

A wife's disobedience and refusal to fulfill her husband's rights constitute forbidden nushuz (rebellion), and its remedy involves following the steps mentioned in the Holy Quran: admonition, then shunning in bed, then light striking.

If the striking is light and not severe, the wife is not permitted to seek divorce; rather, she must obey her husband and fulfill his rights. However, if the striking is an assault and an injustice, it permits her to seek divorce to avert harm. Nevertheless, the husband should try to reconcile and address the problem wisely, overlooking minor lapses to maintain affection.
