What is the course of action and the Islamic legal advice regarding a wife's refusal to return to her marital home, and her demand to distance herself from the husband's family, whom the husband lives next to and visits daily?

The foundation of marital life is mutual understanding and the fulfillment of rights. It is the wife's right to have independent housing, as stated in the Almighty's قول (verse): "Lodge them where you dwell, according to your means." If the husband provides suitable housing, he is not obliged to move. The wife must obey her husband in what is good and reasonable, and men are guardians over women. The wife's family should not be a cause for division; rather, they should strive for reconciliation. The couple should try to resolve the issue through mutual understanding, and if that fails, they should resort to wise and pious relatives.
