What is the religious ruling regarding a wife who refuses to return to the marital home due to disputes with her husband's mother, and demands an independent dwelling, and threatens divorce?

Allah has obligated upon the husband to provide his wife with housing, sustenance, and clothing, according to what is customary. Among the conditions for housing is that it must be exclusive to the wife, meaning no one else should reside with her in it if she so desires, due to the harm that may result otherwise. Therefore, if the wife is harmed by residing in a dwelling that she shares with others, the husband must provide her with independent housing. He should exercise wisdom and deliberation so that his mother is not distressed by his departure from her. He can spend his vacation visiting his mother, then his wife at her family's home, and then they can spend time elsewhere, hoping that the wife's heart will be gladdened and she will return to reside with his mother during the vacation, until he is able to provide her with independent housing.
