How old was Lady Aisha when the Prophet (peace be upon him) proposed to her and when he married her?

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when she was six years old, and consummated the marriage with her when she was nine years old. This is affirmed in Sahih Al-Bukhari, narrated by Aisha herself. As for the engagement (khutbah), the hadiths indicate that it occurred concurrently with the marriage contract ('aqd), as stated in the narration by Ahmad and Al-Tabarani that Khawlah bint Hakim suggested Aisha and Sawdah to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the death of Khadijah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then went to propose to Aisha first, and after Abu Bakr's approval, the marriage contract was concluded. It appears from these hadiths that the the engagement and the marriage contract occurred at the same time.
