Is it permissible to perform prayer when there is blood discharge other than that of menstruation or istihada, and this is after five days of purity?
The basic principle for any blood a woman sees is that it is menstrual blood if it appears at a time suitable for menstruation. If its duration, including any prior bleeding and any pure intervals, does not exceed fifteen days, then it is menstrual blood. However, if its duration exceeds fifteen days, then she is considered to be suffering from irregular bleeding (istihada).
A menstruating woman does not pray until the blood stops and she performs (ritual bath). As for the woman suffering from irregular bleeding, she prays, fasts, and performs all the actions of pure women. She performs wudu (ablution) for each prayer after its time has begun, taking precautions such as using a tightly bound cloth or similar.
