The answer

A husband is not obligated to give his wife gifts. If he does, it is commendable due to its effect in increasing love between them. However, a wife should not make the absence of gifts a cause for disagreement. The mere fact that a wife shares life with her husband in his country of work does not entitle her to any of his money unless he willingly chooses to give it to her, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The property of a Muslim is not lawful except with his willing consent."
