Is it permissible to sell the old mosque to the neighboring church to use its proceeds in building a new mosque, especially since the old mosque is no longer sufficient for the increasing needs of Muslims and cannot be expanded?

A mosque endowed for the sake of Allah may not be demolished, sold, or moved, unless there is an overriding benefit in doing so, such as it being abandoned or too small for its congregants. In such a case, there is no objection to selling it and utilizing the proceeds to build a new mosque. However, selling it to a church is impermissible, as it constitutes aiding disbelievers in their falsehood. Allah Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." Scholars have explicitly stated the impermissibility of leasing property for the construction of a church or synagogue.
