What is the remedy for falling into the characteristics of hypocrites?

The definitive cure for one afflicted with the characteristics of the hypocrites is to avoid them and to repent sincerely to Allah from them, and to adopt the characteristics of sincere believers. So, whoever has a trait of hypocrisy, like those mentioned in the hadith: "When he speaks, he lies; when he promises, he breaks it; when he quarrels, he is abusive; and when he makes a covenant, he betrays it," must abandon it. If he does not, hypocrisy may indeed extinguish any faith he possesses.
