It is permissible to seek assistance from trustworthy individuals in finding a wife, and this is not considered blameworthy asking of people. One must lower the gaze from non-mahram women, and the desire for marriage does not justify letting one's gaze roam freely or speaking without restraint. It is permissible for a suitor to look at the face and hands of the woman he intends to propose to, if he is serious about it. Speaking to a non-mahram woman is permissible when there is a need and within its limits. There is no harm in marrying a chaste woman from the People of the Book, or a disbelieving woman if she embraces Islam, but marrying a woman from the People of the Book is not without its reservations. Attention is drawn to the danger of residing in lands of disbelief unless there is a necessity or a dire need.
