What is the ruling on a girl marrying a young man who proposed to her when her mother refuses this marriage on the pretext that he does not own a large house and abundant wealth, even though the young man is of good character, religious, and has a good reputation, and the girl is convinced of him and wishes to marry him, citing the noble Hadith: "If someone whose religion and character you approve of comes to you, then marry him"?

A mother's compassion for her daughter is natural, but material differences should not be an impediment to her daughter marrying a man of religion and good character, as this is the Islamic standard for compatibility. While a mother's approval is important, a girl has the right to marry whomever she is pleased with in terms of his religion and character, even if her mother is not pleased, because obedience to parents is not absolute.
