The answer

One must be extremely cautious of usury (riba) because it is among the gravest of sins. Whoever has been afflicted by usury and repented must dispose of the usurious gains by giving them to the poor and needy, or for the general welfare of Muslims. If the person involved in usury needs this money, similar to the need of a poor person, then he may take from it only what suffices his need, without excess. It is permissible for a needy person to take ill-gotten money, and it is permissible to give it to your poor brother to furnish his dwelling.
