How is the celebration of the Prophet's Birthday [Mawlid an-Nabawi] observed?

There is no religious evidence that singles out the day of the Prophet's birth, peace and blessings be upon him, with any special merit over other days. Neither the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor his Companions celebrated it after his death. Therefore, it should not be celebrated, as that is among the blameworthy innovations forbidden by Islamic law.
