Is a Muslim's pursuit of religious knowledge with the intention of gaining a deeper understanding of the faith, obtaining a university degree, working and earning a livelihood, and pleasing one's parents, considered seeking knowledge to be called a scholar?

Since you have embarked on seeking religious understanding out of love for knowing your religion and to please your parents, you have done well and been guided to a great good, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whomever Allah wishes good for, He grants him understanding in the religion." The intention of obtaining a university degree for work and earning a livelihood with it does not diminish sincerity, provided that you make it a secondary and subordinate matter that does not affect the primary objective.
