The answer

It is permissible for a son to give to his father if the latter is indebted and unable to repay his debt, or if the son is not obligated to provide for him, or if the father is among those employed to collect zakat, or a fighter in the way of Allah, or a slave who has a contract of manumission. Thus, giving zakat to the father is permissible as long as it is not for the purpose of alleviating an obligation upon the son, such as paying off his father's debt. It is permissible for the father to receive zakat from anyone else as long as he is unable to repay his debt, for the indebted are among the categories eligible to receive zakat.
