What is the Shar'i ruling regarding a wife who harbors ill thoughts and frequently curses and insults her husband, desires to work outside the home, and demands a divorce after giving birth to a daughter, contrary to their agreement, and invokes curses upon him and his family? Is it permissible for the husband to divorce her despite his fear of her injustice?

The verses outline three stages for disciplining a disobedient wife: first, admonishment by reminding her of the reward for obedience and the punishment for disobedience; second, abandoning her in bed, either within or outside the home as needed; and third, light, non-injurious striking. If these measures prove ineffective, assistance should be sought from her relatives who can influence her, in order to rectify her situation. This should be accompanied by patience and attempts to reconcile with her to preserve the family. If the situation does not improve and divorce is deemed better, there is no wrongdoing in it if the husband fears his Lord, but haste in this regard is not advised.
