What is the ruling on someone who experiences a wet dream and does not find time for a ritual bath (ghusl)? Is it sufficient for him to perform ablution (wudu') for prayer, or must he make up the prayers after returning home?

Whoever wakes up in a state of seminal emission must perform ghusl (ritual bath), due to the words of Allah the Almighty: (O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of major impurity, except those passing through [a prayer area], until you have washed [your whole body]) [An-Nisa/43]. If he is unable to perform ghusl due to lack of water or inability to use it, he should perform tayammum (dry ablution) and pray. Wudu (minor ablution) does not suffice for ghusl, and going to university is not an excuse that permits tayammum. Rather, ghusl is obligatory, even if it leads to being late for lectures, for prayer and purity take precedence over study. It is not permissible to delay prayer beyond its prescribed time except for an excuse that permits combining two prayers, due to the words of Allah the Almighty: (Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a book [to be observed at] fixed times) [An-Nisa/103].
