Is it permissible for a person to pray after applying perfumes that contain alcohol, and if the scent of these perfumes transfers to one's clothes or body, is it obligatory to wash them for prayer?

The majority of scholars hold that Khamr (wine/alcohol) is ritually impure (najāsa ḥissiyya). Accordingly, perfumes containing alcohol are intoxicating (muskira) and considered Khamr. Therefore, praying with clothes on which these perfumes have been applied is not valid, as the clothes are rendered impure. However, prayers performed previously do not need to be repeated, due to ignorance or following the opinion of those who consider it pure. It is safer to avoid alcoholic perfumes, even if their purity is affirmed, unless there is a need for them, such as for sterilizing wounds. As for sitting with those who use them, or smelling alcohol, or shaking hands with them, the person smelling or shaking hands is not deemed impure unless the transfer of impurity is certain.
