Staying overnight in Mina is obligatory according to the majority of scholars, and whoever neglects it without an excuse must offer a sacrifice (dam). This stay involves remaining for the greater part of the night. There is no penalty for one who leaves it due to an excuse. The Tawaf al-Ifadah (circumambulation of pouring forth) is a pillar of Hajj, and the major disengagement from ihram is not complete without performing it. The wife must return to Mecca to perform it. It is recommended for her to enter Mecca with an 'Umrah, and then, after completing it, to perform the Tawaf al-Ifadah. However, if she is unable to return to Mecca, she should slaughter a sheep in her location and distribute it to the poor, then shorten her hair to disengage from ihram. But if it was the Hajj of Islam, it remains an obligation upon her.
