What are the fabricated hadiths, when did they appear, and what are some examples of them?

A fabricated Hadith is one that is invented and made up. It has many causes, including: supporting false doctrines, encouraging good deeds, currying favor with rulers, and attacking religion. Lying emerged early on, even while some Companions were still alive. It is not permissible to narrate a fabricated Hadith if one knows it to be so, or strongly believes it to be fabricated. Lying about the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is one of the greatest sins.
