How sound is the Hadith: "Recite the Qur'an with the melodies and voices of the Arabs, and beware of the melodies of the people of wickedness and major sins. For there will come after me people who will recite the Qur'an with the trilling of singing, monasticism, and wailing. It will not pass beyond their throats. Their hearts will be afflicted, and the hearts of those who admire their affair"? And what is the trilling of singing, monasticism, and wailing mentioned in it?

This Hadith is weak due to the presence of Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid in its chain of transmission, and Al-Albani ruled it to be weak. The meaning of "tarjee' al-ghinaa" (ترجيع الغناء) is repeating it as singers do. "Al-rahbaniyyah" (الرهبانية) refers to the monasticism of Christians and their voices during their prayers. "Al-nawh" (النوح) is raising the voice in wailing.

The overall meaning of the Hadith is the importance of reciting the Quran with the beautiful melodies of the Arabs that do not distort the letters. This is because the Quran, with the beauty of its composition and style, instills vitality, and this pleasure is multiplied if it is recited with melodies that do not deviate from its proper form. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Allah has not listened to anything as He has listened to a Prophet with a beautiful voice chanting the Quran." Improving one's voice when reciting the Quran is unanimously desirable, but it is forbidden to deviate from the rules of Tajweed and the etiquette of recitation with any melody or embellishment that removes the Quran from its upright path, as Allah Almighty says: "An Arabic Quran, without any crookedness, that they may become righteous."
