The answer

There is no evidence that merely memorizing Surat Al-Mulk, without consistently reciting it, saves one from the torment of the grave. Rather, the hadiths state that its continuous recitation every night prevents the torment of the grave. It was narrated from Ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that Surat Al-Mulk defends its reciter in the grave, and that whoever recites it every night, Allah will protect him from the torment of the grave through it. For this reason, it was called "Al-Mani'ah" (The Preventer) during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
