What should a woman do about her photos and videos stored on her electronic devices or on those of her Mahrams and female friends?

There is a disagreement among contemporary scholars regarding the ruling on photographic images of living beings. It is more appropriate to avoid photographing women unless there is a need. As a precaution, it is best to avoid photographing ambiguous subjects unless necessary. Those who permit photographic images differ on the ruling regarding possessing and keeping them. It is safer to abstain from this and to delete images if there is no need for them. Photography with a mobile phone or computer camera (digital photography) is easier, and many who prohibit photographic photography have permitted it. When photographic images are permissible or digital, there is no harm in their presence on the devices of female friends or Mahrams, provided that there is no risk of foreign men viewing them. If there is a fear of them being viewed, then one should request their removal. If they refuse, there is no sin upon one who repents, and their repentance is accepted even if the trace of their sin remains.
