The path to tasting the sweetness of faith and humility in prayer involves several matters: a strong motivation from hope of reward or fear of punishment, which is achieved by studying books of encouragement and deterrence; a strong resolve through seeking Allah's help, acting upon His Book, and following the guidance of His Prophet, peace be upon him; associating with good people and shunning bad companions; along with the well-known supplication: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from helplessness, laziness, cowardice, and old age..."

In addition to constant remembrance of Allah, shortening hopes, and remembering the Hereafter, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Remember death in your prayer, for if a man remembers death in his prayer, he is most likely to perfect his prayer. And pray the prayer of a man who does not think he will pray any other prayer." Narrated by Al-Daylami and graded good by Al-Albani. This is coupled with keenness to persist in good deeds, even if they are few, for "the most beloved religion to Him is that which its owner persists in," because persistence in a little is better than much that is قطع
