The answer

Facing the Qiblah is a condition for the validity of prayer, and the worshipper must strive to determine its direction. If the deviation is slight, it does not harm, because what is obligatory is to face its direction, not its precise spot, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "What is between the East and the West is a Qiblah." However, if the deviation is large, but the worshipper made an effort and strived to determine the direction, then his prayer is valid, based on the Almighty's saying: "So fear Allah as much as you are able," and on the fatwas of scholars which affirm the validity of the prayer of one who made an effort and then realized his mistake.
