How can a girl marry the one she desires without harassment from her parents, in the event of their refusal to the marriage, knowing that she was previously married and then divorced without consummation?

The foundation of marital life is affection and mercy. The consent of both spouses is a condition for the marriage contract. A guardian is not permitted to force his ward into marriage, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "And the virgin is to be asked for her permission concerning herself, and her permission is her silence."

The girl should not despair of God's mercy. She should be patient with her family and supplicate frequently for God to facilitate for her a righteous husband. She should also perform the Istikhara prayer. If her family persists in preventing her marriage, she has the right to take her case to court. She should treat her family kindly and draw closer to God through supplication and acts of obedience.
