Is it permissible to listen to women's singing that is not lewd, based on the Prophet's—may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him—permission for Lady Aisha's two slave girls to sing on the day of Eid?

The argument some people make, based on the incident of the two slave girls singing for Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), to justify listening to women's singing under certain conditions, is a flawed argument. This is because the two slave girls were not بالغتين (of age/puberty), nor were they مغنيتين (singers) in the true sense of the word. Rather, they were reciting what the Ansar had composed on the day of Bu'ath, encouraging bravery and fighting. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not object to Abu Bakr's calling the singing "the flute of Satan"; rather, he affirmed them because it was an Eid day, and they were غير مكلفتين (not held responsible/accountable). This incident cannot be compared to the singing of an adult woman to non-mahram (definition) men.
