The answer

The questioner is advised to be patient with her husband, because marital life continues through tolerance and forgiveness. She should avoid actions that provoke her husband's anger, and advise him to abandon anger, which is the root of evil, citing the "Do not get angry," which Ibn al-Tin gathered as encompassing the good of this world and the hereafter. This does not justify abusive behavior from the husband, for reviling a Muslim is a transgression (fusuq), and harming the weak, such as a wife, is among the grave sins (kaba'ir). The husband must treat his wife with kindness (ma'ruf). It is permissible for the wife to seek divorce due to harm, but it is advised to be patient and try to reform the husband.
