Is buying a toy or candy from machines that require a sum of money and randomly dispense the product a form of gambling?

For a sale to be valid, the sold item must be known, either by seeing it or by a description that removes any ambiguity. If the sold item is unknown and varied, such as different goods, then this sale is forbidden and void. It falls under the category of gharar (definition) (uncertainty) sales, which are prohibited, and it is a form of gambling (qimar and maysir (definition)), based on the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) saying: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade gharar sales." This includes the sale of non-existent or unknown items. The Shari'ah has forbidden certain types of sales due to the unknown nature and variability of the sold item, such as the bay' al-hasah (pebble sale), mulamasah (touch sale), and munabadhah (toss sale). It is not permissible to purchase anything through these means.
