What is the ruling of the Shari'ah concerning not informing the suitor about the fiancée's past mental illness (schizophrenia), knowing that she has recovered from it, and is this considered cheating and deception?

The majority of scholars hold that the defects warranting annulment are those that prevent intercourse or are repulsive and contagious diseases. Some, however, are of the view that any defect which repels the other party and prevents the realization of the purpose of marriage necessitates the option (of annulment). Therefore, it is more cautious to inform the suitor about the girl's illness, due to the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever deceives us is not of us."
