The answer

The wife should explain to her husband the obligation of covering the face. If he is not convinced and follows those who do not consider the niqab obligatory, then there is no harm in obeying him in uncovering the face, provided there is no fear of temptation (fitna). However, if the husband wants her to remove the legal hijab, then there is no obedience to him; for there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator, even if it leads to divorce, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent." (At-Talaq: 2-3).
