The question

Is it permissible to be pleased with Amr and Mu'awiyah, given the disagreements between them and Ali ibn Abi Talib and Umar ibn al-Khattab, and taking into consideration that the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, commanded enmity towards Amr in the Hadith of Ghadir Khumm?

The answer

A Muslim must love Ali ibn Abi Talib and the Family of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and cherish and appreciate Umar ibn al-Khattab. Love for the Companions is faith and righteousness, while hatred for them is hypocrisy and disbelief. All of the Companions are considered trustworthy by the Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah (Sunnis), and it is not permissible to hate or disparage any of them. Whoever speaks ill of any of them is a heretic. Mu'awiyah and Amr ibn al-'As are two venerable Companions who possess many virtues.
