Is what the questioner is doing correct by waiting for the brown discharge to cease and for the yellow and beige secretions she sees to disappear after the bleeding stops from the fifth day, so that she can be sure of purity on the seventh day, or is her purity on the sixth day? And must she repeat the ritual bath if she sees anything after that?

A woman recognizes purity from menstruation by one of two signs: complete dryness, where the cotton swab comes out clean with no trace of blood, yellowish discharge (ṣufrah), or brownish discharge (kudrah); or by seeing the white discharge (al-qaṣṣah al-bayḍāʾ), which is a thin, white fluid. The days during which there is yellowish or brownish discharge after the blood has stopped are considered part of menstruation until their trace completely disappears and one of the two signs of purity appears. As for yellowish or brownish discharge after purity has been attained, it is not considered menstruation, and ghusl (definition) (ritual bath) is not required for it.
