What is the ruling regarding someone who wiped over short socks out of ignorance for a year or more?

One of the conditions for the permissibility of wiping over socks is that they must cover the obligatory part (of the foot). If the prayer does not fulfill its conditions, it is invalid. Scholars have differed regarding one who omitted a condition out of ignorance: whether he is obligated to make up the prayer after becoming aware or not. The majority of scholars hold that making up the prayer is obligatory, and this is the more cautious and absolving approach. Meanwhile, others hold that it is not obligatory, and this is the view adopted by Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah.
