How do you reconcile your previous fatwa, which prohibits prolonging supplication in the last prostration, with the recommendations of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, to increase supplication during prostration, knowing that I do not single out the last prostration with the intention of singling it out, but rather due to the abundance of my supplications?

Happiness and pleasure are attained by following the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and his Sunnah. One is not forbidden from prolonging prostration and supplicating therein; rather, it has been conveyed in fatwas that this is encouraged. What is forbidden is to specifically prolong the last prostration, because neither the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor his Companions did so. If the worshiper is a follower, he must follow the Imam. If he is an Imam, he should lighten the prayer unless the followers prefer prolongation. If he is praying alone, he should make his prostrations equal or close in length and supplicate therein as he wishes, or he may prolong some prostrations without singling out the last one. What is prohibited is the habitual prolongation of only the last prostration, as this has not been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, or his Companions.
