Is it permissible for a husband to compel his wife to share in essential expenses, such as school fees, household furniture, children's clothes, and Umrah expenses, even if she is well-off and has her own income, considering that he is also well-off and possesses substantial capital? And would she be sinful if she completely refused to pay?

The money earned by the wife is her exclusive right, and her husband is not permitted to control it or compel her to spend it. If the wife does not stipulate working at the time of the marriage contract, the husband has the right to prevent her from going out to work, and she must obey him. He may allow her to work in exchange for money or a contribution to household expenses. The wife's maintenance is obligatory upon the husband, in accordance with what is customary and according to his capability. She is not obligated to spend on herself or her children, as their maintenance is obligatory upon their father. The husband must spend on his wife and children according to custom, and he does not have the right to compel her to spend. Understanding and cooperation between the spouses are preferred, as well as a gracious contribution from the wife if she is able. Giving gifts between spouses brings affection, and the husband should give gifts to his wife. The husband is not obligated to cover the expenses of Umrah for his wife and children, and cooperation in this matter is recommended.
