Is the paternal uncle of the husband's father a mahram to the wife?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
The maternal uncle of the husband's father, or his brother, and others are not considered mahram to his wife, unless there is a breastfeeding relationship or kinship between her and one of them that establishes mahramiyyah. Mere affinal relationship does not establish mahramiyyah between them. Therefore, it is permissible for him to marry her if she is divorced or her husband dies. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against entering upon women, and likened al-hamw – who is the husband's brother and similar relatives – to death.
