The question

What is the authenticity of the hadith that describes the Prophet's vision (peace be upon him) of the Angel of Death on the night of Al-Isra wal-Mi'raj, and how souls are seized, and his knowledge of people's lifespans, and then his manifestation to the Prophet in his true form?

The answer

Allah informed His Prophet Muhammad about His unseen and His greatest signs, as in His Almighty saying: "He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord." However, the mentioned Hadith about the Prophet seeing the Angel of Death, called "Azrael," on the night of the Mi'raj (Ascension) seems to be a fabricated topic; because the name "Azrael" has not been authentically established in any sound Hadith, and it has been mentioned in Israelite narrations, whereas his mention came in the Qur'an and Sunnah by the name "Angel of Death" as in His Almighty saying: "Say, 'The Angel of Death, who has been entrusted with you, will take your souls.'" This Hadith has not been found in the collections of Sunnah.
