What is the interpretation of the Almighty's saying: "Allah is He Who created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof. The Command descends between them that you may know that Allah has power over all things, and that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge"?

The exegetes differed regarding the nature of the layers of the earth mentioned in the Qur’an, holding two views: The first is that there are seven earths, one above the other, with a distance between each, and each earth has inhabitants. This is the view of the majority. The second is that they are superimposed one upon the other without any fissures. The first view is the more correct one due to the existence of hadiths indicating it. Thus, the earth we live on is one of these earths, and the other six are separate from it.
