It is permissible to perform ' on behalf of the deceased, or on behalf of the living who is incapacitated, whether it is an obligatory or a voluntary 'Umrah. As for the living and able-bodied person, it is permissible according to the Hanafis to perform a voluntary 'Umrah on their behalf if they have already performed the obligatory 'Umrah themselves; otherwise, it is not. The majority of scholars, however, are of the opinion that it is impermissible, and this is the more preponderant view. It is stipulated that the person performing 'Umrah on behalf of another must have first performed 'Umrah for themselves.
