How do I acquire modesty in all its forms?

Cultivating modesty (haya') is important because it is a branch of faith and a characteristic of Islam. Modesty is of three types: modesty before Allah by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions, modesty before people by refraining from harming them and not openly committing disgraceful acts, and modesty before oneself by being chaste and safeguarding one's private moments. If modesty is perfected in a person in these three aspects, the means of good are perfected in him, and the means of evil are eliminated from him. Ibn al-Qayyim also mentioned other types of modesty.
