How does a Muslim differentiate between afflictions resulting from envy and other afflictions, and is there a clear scientific method for that, and how can envy be treated without knowing the envier?

Envy (hasad) and the evil eye ('ayn) are recognized by their symptoms. The symptoms of the evil eye are often like a physical illness that does not respond to medical treatment, such as joint pain, lethargy, insomnia, skin ulcers, aversion to family and society, in addition to pallor, chest tightness, forgetfulness, heaviness in the head and shoulders, and tingling in the extremities. As for envy, its symptoms appear on wealth, body, and children, as the person suffers from psychological illnesses such as hatred of studying or working, decline in intelligence, and inclination towards isolation. The method of healing from both is through ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) by reciting Surah Al-Fatiha, Ayatul Kursi, the end of Surah Al-Baqarah, Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas), and some prophetic supplications. If the person who cast the evil eye is known, they are asked to perform ghusl (full ablution) or wudu (partial ablution) so that the afflicted person can wash with the water from their ablution.
