The answer

Those who claim that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, followed his desires, rely on the hadith of Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, upon the revelation of the verse: (You may defer [the turn of] whom you will among them, and take to yourself whom you will. And there is no blame upon you if you seek one whom you had [temporarily] separated). She said: "I do not see your Lord but that He hastens to fulfill your desires." The meaning of her statement, as Ibn Hajar mentioned, is that Allah responds to the Prophet's desires without delay. Al-Qurtubi explained that this statement was uttered by Aisha due to jealousy and endearment. This hadith is evidence of the Prophet's chastity, for Allah permitted him to marry women who offered themselves to him, yet he did not marry any of them.
