Is it permissible to wear bright colors and adorn oneself with the intention of provoking the Shiites who wear black during Ashura? And is it permissible to backbite them and supplicate against them, knowing that they display enmity, and one of them was seen using talismans and harming others?

It is impermissible to adorn oneself on the day of Ashura, as this might be construed as an expression of joy by the Sunnis over the killing of Husayn, which the Sunnis do not condone. Similarly, actions that demonstrate animosity towards opponents are not permissible. Instead, one must strive to invite them [to the truth] and reform them, or turn away from them if inviting them is not feasible, without placing obstacles in the path of da'wah. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that Satan introduced two innovations on the day of Ashura: the innovation of grief and wailing, and the innovation of joy, happiness, and extravagance. Both are innovations and misguidance that none of the imams of the Muslims found commendable.
